I got a call from Frances Gammill whose husband remembered reading in the local newspaper that I try to return lost photos to families. (Thank you Stone County Leader) LC Gammill’s daughter had found this box in a home she and her husband purchased on Greers Ferry Lake as many as 15 years ago. The home had smoke and fire damage and the original owners sold it and moved away. Their name was Carter. This box was found left behind and had suffered some water damage. It contains photos, a 1950’s Seminole Oklahoma yearbook, war ration books, newspaper clipping, an old wallet, 1949 tax return of Edison & Verner Carter, etc. The tax return was a fascinating find to me as I’m a CPA and former tax preparer. I had never seen a tax return this old. One page! Likely this box was in the possession of a child of Edison & Verner Carter. A Google search for the couple landed a findagrave.com entry for a daughter of the couple, JoAnn Marie Carter Adams of Pryor, Oklahoma, who passed away in 2013. Her parents, a brother, and a sister preceded her in death. The family photo in this box shows the parents with two boys and two girls. The surviving sibling in her obituary is Roy Carter with his wife Shirley who resided in Pensacola, Florida at the time. The search is on for the Carters to return this intriguing box of old photos and memorabilia.
