I purchased this photo at Cadwell’s Downtown Flea Market in historic downtown Branson, Missouri in December 2018. The endearing photo is captioned in pencil on the back as “Yvonne Allen, July 3, 1920, Age 4 years.” On my initial review of the photo, I felt the portrait was of a boy, but his name listed as Yvonne and the clothing had me questioning this. Fortunately, the unusual name of Yvonne, helped me locate at Ancestry.com one William Yvonne Allen, male, who was born July 3, 1916 in Moberly, Randolph County, Missouri. Most likely one and the same and the young man was photographed on his fourth birthday. Notably, on his marriage record, his name is listed as William Y. Allen and his tombstone at FindaGrave.com is inscribed as William Y. Allen, so perhaps he found it better to go by William than Yvonne. Mr. Allen’s tombstone indicates he was in the US Navy in World War II. He died April 20, 1983 and is buried at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri. Thank you for your service to our country, Mr. William Y. Allen. I hope to return this sweet photo to one of your descendants. Interestingly, William Yvonne Allen’s marriage record indicates he married Lea Bruens in Randolph County, Arkansas March 4, 1949. Interesting because he was born in Randolph County, Missouri and married in Randolph County, Arkansas. I will be sleuthing to learn if they have children to return the photo to.
