These photos were purchased at an antique store in Prairie Grove, Arkansas in April 2019. The first has a penciled caption on the front “Emily Strother.” The second is captioned on the back as “Emma Strother.” It looks like the photos are of the same child, taken a few years apart. The locations from the photographer’s stamps are Hartsburg, Missouri and Ashland, Missouri. Both are towns in Boone County, Missouri. Based on the dress style and the background I estimated the photos were taken in the early 1900’s. I searched in the tree of FamilySearch.org for the name Emily Strother with birthplace Boone County MO with a birth year range of 1900-1915. This landed a profile which I believe likely to be a match. The Emily Strother found in the tree was born in 1896 in Boone County, Missouri. She was the daughter of Samuel Henry Strother and Rosa Francis Howard. She married Henry Priest Allee in 1917 at Cole, Missouri. The profile also includes a 1978 obituary for Emily which says she had a daughter named Maude Rose Reese of Kimberling City, Missouri who survived her as well as one grandchild and one great-grandchild. It is likely that her daughter may also be deceased, but I’m looking for Maude or her descendants to return the photo to. The obituary stated Emily had been assistant postmaster in Olean until her retirement. Another obituary found online for her husband indicates he had been the Olean Missouri postmaster. The search is on.
