I believe this photo was purchased in Missouri. The back caption reads “aunt Melanie Sunderwirth. Melane Lauer.” I searched for this name on FamilySearch.org and found a likely match, a profile for a Melanie Lauer (1851-1922) who married Frederick William Sunderwirth at St. Paul’s Evangelical Church, Little Berger, Roark Township, Gasconade County, Missouri. on January 20, 1870. The dress style in this photo seems to be in the corresponding era. Melanie died in Rockville, Bates County, Missouri which is in the Kansas City area. I’ll message some of the contributors to her FamilySearch profile to see if they are a descendant.

UPDATE: A 3 times grandniece residing in Ohio found Melanie’s photo on this website and sent a message to me requesting the photo. I’m happy to mail the photo back to family. Another happy return!
