This collection of 8×10 photos was found by volunteers in a storage room of the Stone County Historical Society. Two small photos of young Brad Burns led to SCHS Editor and retired teacher Robbie Purdom identifying Brad’s mom, the late Vauda Burns of Mountain View, in a group photo. SCHS member and retired Arkansas Game and Fish Commission biologist Fred Ward confirmed the identification and said the photo (first in the collection below) could possibly be of AGFC radio operators across Arkansas. Vauda started as a radio operator for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission in the 1950’s and retired after 37 years. She is at far right in this picture. Since these group photos are of staff of AGFC across the state, we felt they should be rehomed to state offices of the AGFC. A phone call to the agency and a conversation with Bridget Corbin confirmed that they would like to have the photos. In addition to the group photos, there are also individual officer photos, a few of which are labeled at least with the county such as Mississippi or Poinsett. These photos are being mailed to the headquarters of Arkansas Game & Fish Commission in Little Rock to become part of the preserved history of the commission. Special acknowledgment to the late Vauda Brewer for preserving these photos from the past. The gar hanging from equipment with an officer beside it is labeled on the back as 6’6″ 172 lbs White River near Jacks. The large catfish is labeled 48″ and presumed to also have come from the White River near Mountain View.
